Dark horses Belgium failed to impress but managed to get a win in their World Cup opener against Algeria.

Algeria shocked the Group H top seeds after Sofiane Feghouli converted a penalty after 24 minutes in Belo Horizonte to put the African side ahead.

Belgium toiled for much of the match but finally equalised in the 70th minute.

Manchester United's Marouane Fellaini headed the equaliser just minutes after coming off the bench as he got a deft flick on an in-swinging cross from Kevin De Bruyne.

And with just over 10 minutes to go, Napoli winger Dries Mertens raced onto a Eden Hazard pass to finish off a swift counter-attack.
