In a career like David Beckham’s it can be hard to pick out the defining moments, or the best goals. So, with full admission that this isn’t comprehensive or definitive, here are some of the most memorable moments from the long career of David Beckham.

Wimbledon V Manchester United, Premiership, 1996

Still the greatest way anyone has ever announced themselves as a player on the big stage.

England V Argentina, World Cup, 1998
If any single moment coloured the remainder of Beckham’s career, it was his kick on Diego Simeone in the second round of the '98 World Cup. For a long time following that night Beckham became public enemy number 1 for large swathes of English football fans.

England V Greece – World Cup qualifier, 2001

The shaky camera following Beckham, arms outstretched in adulation reception, across the Old Trafford pitch, has become a part of English football folklore.

Redemption for 98? Almost.

England V Argentina, World Cup, 2002

Redemption for 98? Finally.

West Ham V Manchester United, Premiership, 02/03

Not a particularly momentous goal in the grand scheme of things, but a fine example of Beckham at his best.

Real Madrid V Deportivo La Coruna, La Liga

Beckham may well have been overrated - with many sure to debate the distinction between good and great when discussing his career, and we’d be torn on that debate here, no doubt – however, there may only be a handful of players in the history of the game who could play a long pass like him. Perhaps only one who could play this exact pass? Either way, sublime.
