If any single moment coloured the remainder of Beckham’s career, it was his kick on Diego Simeone in the second round of the '98 World Cup. For a long time following that night Beckham became public enemy number 1 for large swathes of English football fans.

The shaky camera following Beckham, arms outstretched in adulation reception, across the Old Trafford pitch, has become a part of English football folklore.

Beckham may well have been overrated - with many sure to debate the distinction between good and great when discussing his career, and we’d be torn on that debate here, no doubt – however, there may only be a handful of players in the history of the game who could play a long pass like him.
