The potential destinations for Wayne Rooney, should he leave Manchester United, are narrowing rapdily. Any chances of the striker moving to Bayern Munich appear to have been extinguished before the world even got to enjoy some baseless speculation, with a representative of the club openly declaring they have no interest in the Manchester United striker.

Bayern sporting director, Mattias Sammer, dismissed any debate on the issue, with an unequivocal denial of interest from the Bundesliga champions.

"I don't know what Rooney would bring to the Bundesliga," Sammer said. "I can't answer that. I can answer that we have great respect for Wayne Rooney but there has been no contact with him. There is no contact and he's not on the agenda. No, no. Absolutely not.”

Bayern’s declaration of non-interest narrows the potential new homes for the 27 year old striker with the £250,00 p/w contract. Rooney’s abilities are generally considered to be on the decline, and for almost all of Europe’s biggest clubs he will no longer represent a player worth over one million pounds per month. Manchester City would appear to have the resources, however reports suggest they have not maintained the interest which saw Rooney almost make a dramatic cross city switch two years ago.

PSG and Monaco might now be considered the only clubs with the means and will to take Rooney off United’s hands, presuming he doesn’t want to move to the mega-rich Russian side FC Anzhi Makhachkala, where Samuel Eto’o currently plays as the world’s most remunerated player. PSG however have plenty of striking options, while Monaco are currently believed to be in the process of working out a £60m deal for Atletico Madrid’s Falcao.

Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson publicly stated last Sunday that Rooney had submitted a transfer request. The player’s camp has disputed the claim.
