Bayern Munich have signed highly-rated Moroccan defender Mehdi Benatia from Roma.

The 27-year-old, who started his professional career at Marseille, has been linked with many of Europe's top clubs this summer.

But Pep Guardiola's Bayern won the race for his signature, confirming a deal had been agreed with Roma.

Benatia will sign a five-year deal and the fee is believed to be £24 million.

The purchase will ease Bayern's defensive worries after Spain's Javi Martinez was ruled out with a cruciate ligament injury.
