Luis Suárez kept his goalscoring streak going, while Lionel Messi also found the back of the net to help Barcelona to the top of the La Liga table with a 2-1 over Atlético Madrid.
There were red cards and goals in a tight game that could prove decisive in the La Liga title race between Atléti and Barça at the Camp Nou on Saturday.
The visitors took the lead after a ball was whipped in by Saúl Ñíguez from the right side, and while Antoine Griezmann failed to make contact, Koke was on hand to stroke the ball home with a well-controlled hit.
Simeone's side remained on top for a further few minutes and they could have added to their lead, but it was Lionel Messi who next found the back of the net after a poor clearance came out to Andrés Iniesta. He found Neymar, who played a smart ball to Jordi Alba down the left wing, and it was cut across to Messi who made no mistake.
Just minutes later, Suárez turned the game on its head with a smart finish between the legs of Jan Oblak after Dani Alves played a sublime ball in behind the Atléti defence, and the in form Uruguayan made no mistake.
Although Atléti could have hoped to come back into the game at some stage, a deserved red card for Felipe Luis reduced them to 10 men and left them fighting an uphill battle.
There was little they could do after they were reduced to nine men in the second half when Diego Godín received a second yellow for a challenge on Suárez.
Speaking after the game, Diego Simeone stated that he was proud of the performance that his team had put in despite the defeat.
"We played well, except for a ten minute period where Barcelona scored two goals. After, with nine men, we played with the same qualities we always do [...] if we lose, I'd prefer to lose like that".
