Afghanistan have lost their first Cricket World Cup match, despite putting Bangladesh all out.

The Afghans found reasons for positivy as they restricted Bangladesh to 267 all out, but were then themselves dismissed for 162 after just 42.5 overs at the Manuka Oval.

Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat but struggled until the pairing of Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan combined for 114.

Shakib was bowled out with Bangladesh on 233 and his exit precipitated a collapse, with the final six wickets falling for just 34 runs.

Afghanistan’s positive momentum did not last into their own innings at bat however as they went to 3-3 within the opening three overs.

Samiullah Shenwari and Nowroz Mangal were able to muster a 62 run partnership but there was to be no recovery for the Afghans, who eventually fell to a 105 run defeat.
