Liverpool 0 - 3 Real Madrid

The Reds fell to a 3 - 0 home defeat against the European champions who picked them off after Liverpool made a bright start to the game.

Cristiano Ronaldo put Real Madrid in front on 23 minutes starting the move and then darting between Liverpool defenders and planting the ball past Simon Mignolet and into the Reds' net.

Karim Benzema made it 2 - 0 on the half hour mark when his looping header from a Toni Kroos cross soared over Mignolet's head and the Frenchman put Real Madrid out of reach minutes before half-time when he tapped in a third at a corner.

Anderlecht 1 - 2 Arsenal

Arsene Wenger's side needed two late goals from Kieran Gibbs and Lukas Podolski to snatch victory in Belgium.

Andy Najar's header had put Anderlecht in front on 71 minutes against a lacklustre Gunners side.

But Gibbs leveled for Arsenal with a side-footed volley, before Lukas Podolski pounced from six yards to give Wenger relief on his 65th birthday.
