Tottenham manager Andre Villas Boas has received his fair share of stick since his Spurs side endured a 6 - 0 drubbing at the hands of Manchester City.
But yesterday he hit back at the media pack and the Daily Mail's Neil Ashton in particular.
AVB's response drew the support of Sam Allardyce. But the West Ham boss still felt that the former Porto manager's response was "immature".
Pat Nevin agrees that AVB is better off not picking fights with the press pack as he told Off The Ball tonight.
"I was at the Everton vs Spurs game and I was talking to AVB after the game. He was in great form with me and then when he was talking to the journalists, he was attacking them. There's nothing much to be gained from that because they won't write anything good about you. Eventually the journalists who are attacked will turn on him.
"I think I know what he's trying to do. We know Alex Ferguson has bullied many a journalist and got his own way. We know Mourinho is capable of bullying a journalist. There is a history of doing this. But you have to have the gravitas to do it. You have to have won the trophies and without that backing, you don't get to do it. I don't think AVB has the backing to do it yet."
Nevin also touched on the situation at Fulham where Martin Jol has been replaced by former Manchester United assistant Rene Meulensteen. Nevin reckons Jol will be back in a job fairly soon with Holland a likely destination and also shared his experience as a director in a Motherwell boardroom which sacked manager Billy Davies who also happened to be a friend of his.
