India produced one of the great run-chases to hand Australia a first Test series defeat at the Gabba in 33 years.

India were chasing a target of 328 for the win, making it the highest ever run chase at the famous venue in Brisbane.

The highest successful chase in a Gabba Test was previously 236-7, achieved by Australia in 1951.

Shubman Gill scored 91 and Rishabh Pant managed to stay the course with an unbeaten 89, which helped India secure the win with three overs to spare on a dramatic final day of the four-Test series.

The visitors won the series 2-1 and hold onto the Border-Gavaskar they won in Australia two years ago.

Captain Virat Kohli, who was unavailable after the first Test due to the birth of his first child had a message for all the doubters.

Few would have predicted a series win for India when they were bowled out for a record low score of 36 in the first Test in Adelaide.

However, the visitors produced a stunning comeback to win the second Test by eight wickets, they drew the third Test and then saved their best for last on the final day of the series.

Australia required just three wickets to win the series but a 49 partnership from Pant and debutant Washington Sundar helped India edge things in dramatic fashion.
