It’s a day for paying tribute to Nelson Mandela who sadly passed away last night at the age of 95.
Madiba’s decision to wear the Springbok jersey was another step along the long road to reconciliation as the symbol had been seen as one of the white oppressors, Mandela’s decision to wear it eased tensions and help build respect showing a gesture can go a long way.
Francois Pienaar was the Springboks captain during the 1995 World cup and outlines the importance of Mandela’s visible support for the team.
