Phil Thompson doesn’t see a place for Juan Cuadrado in Jose Mourinho’s line-up, despite Chelsea closing in on a big-money move for the Colombia winger this morning.

Transfer deadline day is upon us and Cuadrado is poised to become its biggest move in a £30m deal, with Chelsea also set to offload Andre Schurrle to Wolfburg for a similar fee to balance the books. In addition, Mohamed Salah is Fiorentina-bound as part of the Cuadrado transfer.

Sky Sports pundit Thompson said: “[Cuadrado] had a very good World Cup but I’m looking at him and I’m thinking, where’s this boy going to play? Is it another one like Mohamed Salah who came in there thinking ‘this is great’.

“He’s coming for the money. He’s coming to see on the bench.

The Liverpool great added: “From what I seen of Cuadrado ... Schurrle was better. But they’re letting Schurrle go.

“And they’re paying between £25m and £30m for him, and I just don’t see where he’s going to fit into this team.”

‘Tommo’ also had high praise for Manchester City after their draw with Premier League leaders Chelsea on Saturday, says the third and fourth places are wide open, and said he expects Leicester, QPR and Aston Villa to get relegated.
