Rory McIlroy could have paid up to €5m in legal fees alone after settling a court case with his former management company in Dublin today.

Brian Keogh of irishgolfdesk.com told Off The Ball tonight that the entire settlement with Horizon Sports Management will amount to "close to €30m", but that it will pale into relative insignificance given what the world number one will earn over rest of his career.

“His own legal costs – in terms of euro – four million, five million euro perhaps," said Keogh.

“He’s got senior counsel to pay, not only his ... we’re talking about a huge of money in legal costs. It’s a rather large bill.

“But looking at the bigger picture going forward, Rory McIlroy is now in charge of his own destiny and there’ll be no agents to pay.”

Keogh added: "It cost Rory McIlroy in total close to €30m I would imagine.

"He's already worth about $140m. He's made more money than Pádraig Herrington did in his entire career.

"He's gonna make absolutely huge money going forward ... so it's worked out as a pretty good deal."
