Arsenal forward Joel Campbell has joined Villarreal on loan for the rest of the season, according to the Spanish club.

The Costa Rican's move to Spain is part of a deal which would see Arsenal sign Villarreal's defender Gabriel Paulista.

Campbell has received minimal game-time under Arsene Wenger this season, having spent previous seasons out on loan at the likes of Real Betis and Olympiakos.

The 22-year-old, who impressed at the World Cup as his country reached the quarter-finals, has made 10 appearances in all competitions this season, failing to find the net.

Meanwhile, Gabriel is understood to have passed a medical ahead of the move to the London side.
