Jorge Sampaoli's first match in charge of Argentina, saw his side defeat Brazil 1-0 in Melbourne

It was an enjoyable match, but by no means a classic. The goal came on the stroke of half-time thanks to a tap from Gabriel Mercado. Brazil had their own chances to level the game through Gabriel Jesus and Willian, but the Premier League duo were denied by the post on each occasion.

Although it was a friendly, the two managers selected strong sides. Among the names were Sergio Romero, Paulo Dybala, Angel Di Maria, Gonzalo Higuain and Lionel Messi who lined out for the winners.

The absence of Neymar was definitely missed for Brazil but they still had the likes of Jesus, Willian and Philippe Coutinho to bring some spark.

It was a bad evening for Jesus who was taken off on a stretcher after suffering an elbow to the face from his Manchester City teammate Nicolas Otamendi.
