We couldn't see Andy Lee's face tonight on Off The Ball, but it's pretty obvious that some form of grin was plastered across his face.

The Limerick fighter achieved a long held dream to claim the WBO Middleweight world title by beating Matt Koborov in Las Vegas on Saturday.

With the achievement still sinking in, Lee joined us on the line to share his emotions.

"I've done it after so many years of wanting it and working towards it. Being a world champion, it's happened now and it feels great," said Lee, speaking from London before he returns to Limerick for his homecoming on Wednesday.

A civic reception awaits on the steps of City Hall and Lee joked that he has "images in my head of Rocky Balboa on the steps."

On the aftermath of victory, he also said he has been "taking it in with people that matter".

He also talked about being behind on the scorecard before the right hook which eventually turned the match on its head.

"I could see the referee, Kenny Bayless, in my peripheral vision standing very close as I was throwing the punches. I was kinda hoping that he'd step in. I was saying in my head 'jump in now.'"

Lee also spoke about the way in which the presence of Emanuel Steward's (former trainer) widow ringside helped him.
