We saw exactly what Germany are capable of when they ripped a poor Ireland side apart at the Aviva Stadium.

And that 6 - 1 scoreline did not flatter them by any means.

But as Off The Ball's Joe Molloy found out when speaking to German radio host Daniel Neuhaus, there isn't total satisfaction with the NationalMannschaft.

The vibrant attacking football has not offset the lack of titles over the past seven years.

And in truth, Germany do have frailties even if they have breezed through our qualifying group with relative ease.

Indeed a major cause of concern came just four days after the hammering of the Boys in Green.

The star-studded Germans were coasting to a 4 - 0 victory over Sweden in Berlin with 35 minutes to go.

But then the unthinkable, the German mentality failed them uncharacteristically as they ended up drawing 4 - 4.

Significantly, they started with a cavalier central midfield duo of Toni Kroos and Bastian Schweinsteiger, neither of whom are primarily defensive.

It was the only major blip for Germany in Group B but they have not been secure defensively.

They have conceded seven goals in eight games and kept just four clean sheets.

They have also leaked goals in recent friendlies against Ecuador (4 - 2 win),  USA (4 - 3 defeat) and Paraguay (3 - 3 draw).

Manager Joachim Löw has been searching for the right formula at the back for some time and in terms of balance. At Euro 2012, the starting partnership was Holger Badstuber and Mats Hummels.

Both are excellent defenders but were deemed culpable in the semi-final defeat to Italy, particularly for Mario Balotelli's first goal when Antonio Cassano turned Hummels before crossing for Super Mario who was not tightly marked by Badstuber.

Bayern Munich defender Badstuber is out of the reckoning at the moment after suffering a serious knee injury last season but libero-like defender Hummels has been dropped to the bench recently with Arsenal's Per Mertesacker and Bayern's Jerome Boaten in favour at the moment.

Meanwhile, in front of them there has been criticism for Bastian Schweinsteiger in some quarters, with Germany legend Gunter Netzer claiming that he was not dynamic enough in the centre of the park and that Dortmund's Ilkay Gundogan could oust him from his starting spot.

In February Netzer said: "Schweinsteiger's game has for some time unfortunately mostly seen him create from his own half, with many, sometimes unnecessary, cross-field passes and not so many vertical passes and individual initiative, which are the quickest ways to launch an attack."

Up front, Mario Gomez and Miroslav Klose are missing tonight which means that the relatively inexperienced but talented Max Kruse of Borussia Monchengladbach will lead the line.
