British boxer Amir Khan has not attempted to hide his disappointment with Floyd Mayweather's decision to fight Andre Berto on September 12th in what could be the American's final appearance in the ring.

Khan has long courted the possibility of taking on the undefeated Mayweather. But with the latter lining up fellow welteweight Berto instead, it appears unlikely that Khan v Mayweather will ever happen.

The upcoming bout against Berto is the last in a six-fight deal that Mayweather signed with Showtime in 2013 and a victory would see him move level with Rocky Marciano with record of 49-bouts undefeated.

Although Khan admitted his disappointment, he did add that Mayweather has earned the right to choose the opponents of his choice, saying: "I’m disappointed not to have got the fight for what is the third time after having been one of the frontrunners.

"However, there are many big fights out there for me and I’m going to continue working hard to establish myself at the top of the welterweight division. Floyd Mayweather has fought the biggest names throughout his career and has earned the right to face whoever he chooses.

"I wish my stablemate Andre Berto and trainer Virgil Hunter the very best of luck in the fight. I have seen how hard Andre trains and works and know that he is ready to give Floyd a very tough night."
