AFC Wimbledon have been promoted to the third tier of English football for the first time.

They have beaten Plymouth 2-0 in the League Two play-off final at Wembley, with striker Adebayo Akinfenwa, famous for his large frame, in jovial mood:

It means they will play next season in the same division as MK Dons, the club controversially formed via Wimbledon FC moving north in 2003.

After the original London club - which famously won the 1988 FA Cup with the Crazy Gang - was relocated to Milton Keynes, AFC Wimbledon was founded in the ninth tier of English football's pyramid before reaching League Two and the promised land of the Football League in 2011.
