The couple, who have a nine-month-old son, announced their break-up yesterday.
A spokesperson for the couple says it was a mutual decision, and the two remain close friends.
The True Blood actor met Bell eight years ago after meeting at the Sundance festival in 2005.
They started dating later that year while working on the Green Day video for the group's song "Wake Me Up When September Ends."
During a break from dated Bell, Wood also dated and became engaged to musician Marilyn Manson before that also ended.
When the announcement broke, Wood simply stated on Twitter that she would be taking a break for a while. But in the lead up to the announcement, Wood had been tweeting cryptic, curious messages.
Bell deactivated his Twitter account altogether.
Twitter break for a while. ...to be continued.
