A poor start to the season had Galway fans worrying that they could be slumming it in division three next season however a resurrection mid campaign saw them hang onto division two status.

Since then they've arrived safely into the Connacht final via wins over London and Sligo away which, on the face of it, seems like the Tribesmen were doing what was expected.

Given how they struggled against Tipperary and Waterford at home last year nothing was taken for granted in those two games.

Alan Mulholland is in his third year in charge of a young senior side, many of whom he managed to minor and under 21 All Ireland titles.

He sat down with me at the head office of his families bookmaking firm to chat about the Connacht final but first spoke about their year so far.
