It is a controversy that has gripped a nation and rolled on for many, many weeks now, but there was still one more sting in the tail for the RTÉ payments scandal.

Ryan Tubridy, on the cusp of getting back on the airwaves in early September, has instead been jettisoned from RTÉ entirely – this is on the back of Mr Tubridy issuing one final statement suggesting he still believes the money linked to that special Renault deal did not amount to a salary top-up.
