Supermac’s owner Pat McDonagh is voicing strong opposition to plans for a near 17% increase in personal injury awards.

Mr McDonagh argues that the rise will only add more strain on struggling businesses, and drive up insurance costs.

On The Hard Shoulder, Brian Hanley, CEO of Alliance for Insurance Reform, said too is worried about the potential change.

“There’s a significant concern that the increase in awards will inevitably lead to increases in premiums for motorists, businesses, sports, community and voluntary groups,” he said.

“We are coming to a place where awards in this country have far exceeded those in other countries for a very long time.”
