Ireland is one of only two countries in Europe that didn’t reduce its alcohol consumption during the first lockdown. 

A new study in the Addiction Journal found that Ireland’s alcohol consumption stayed the same, even though pubs and restaurants were closed, while in the UK, alcohol consumption increased. 

Should we be surprised by the fact that we still managed to drink the same amount, just at home? 

Prof Frank Murray, Consultant Physician/Gastroenterologist and Associate Professor of Medicine at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and Prof Mary P Corcoran, of the Sociology dept at Maynooth University, joined Kieran on the Hard Shoulder to discuss.
