Now the Cabinet are expected to appoint Robert Watt to the job of Secretary General of the Department of Health on a permanent basis within the next fortnight.

He had been doing the job on a temporary basis for a number of months.

However this permanent appointment has come in for a lot of criticism.

But should the new Secretary General of the Department of Health be getting an €81,000 payrise?

Or do we have to pay these high salaries to attract the best candidates for these types of jobs.
