A garda investigation is underway following an alleged assault in Co Waterford which left three teenagers requiring treatment in hospital.

The incident occurred at Earlscourt at about 11pm on Thursday night, according to gardai.

A number of youths were involved in an altercation after which three required medical attention and attended Waterford Hospital for treatment.

It's understood a number of the injured parties sustained burn injuries.

Gardaí believe acid was thrown over the group and one of the youths, believed to be Irish soccer U17 international Tega Agberhiere, is still in hospital where doctors are trying to save his sight.

Tega's mother Christy Agbherhiere joins Newstalk Breakfast to explain what happened.
