Radical new strategies to reduce private car use

Congestion charges, higher car parking fees, the pedestrianisation of urban centres, cheaper public transport and fuel price increases will all be considered as part of a major new car reduction strategy. Eamon Ryan, the Minister for Transport, will bring a memo to cabinet tomorrow which will trigger a year-long process of developing a “demand management strategy” to allow the country to reach its emissions reductions targets. To debate this Shane was joined on the show by Green Party Spokesperson for Transport, Climate Action and Environment, Brian Leddin and also Independent TD, Michael Healy Rae.
