There’s an urgent need for much more ambitious measures to try to preserve workers jobs and uphold their net incomes in the event of lay-offs.

Those were the words Patricia King, General Secretary of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions wrote to An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar as an estimated 140,000 people have already lost their jobs due to the Coronavirus outbreak.
