Just through our eyes alone, we’re processing something akin to an 8K resolution stream every waking second, and to simply function, the brain needs to focus.

So how does the brain decide what to keep and what to throw away? To find out, neuroscientists created a genetic algorithm to ask neurons what they want to see.

The results? Kind of unsettling actually.

Carlos R. Ponce, Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurobiology at Harvard Medical School joined Jonathan to discuss.
