John Giles joined Joe Molloy on Off The Ball today and gave us his insight into what happened and what failed to happen for Ireland in their disappointing 1-1 draw with Scotland at the Aviva stadium yesterday.
After a disappointing result it was Wes Hoolahan's performances that Giles was most optimistic about saying:“Wes Hoolahan was getting on the ball better than everyone else. He was the most effective player in the middle of the field.”
Many fans were frustrated with Seamus Coleman's performance but Giles highlighted how it was uncharacteristic of him
"It’s unlike him. He didn’t play well yesterday. I mean he’s a terrific player there's no doubt about that. His selection of crosses when he was in good position was unlike him, it was poor."
John went on to say that it's hard to tell if Ireland have progressed under the guidance of Martin O' Neill and Roy Keane but has seen an improvemnet in Ireland's last two performances to say that they are going in the right direction. "I don’t think we’ve had consistency in team selection to judge it. Yesterday and the previous match were two of our best performances."
