The Paper Review: "What's this, 'hot mess'?" Chris educates Ivan on the world's newest words

This morning’s paper review began with Chris telling us about a rather unfortunate incident for two police officers in Canada, and finished with him trying to educate a thoroughly confused Ivan on the meaning of terms such as “fo-shizzle” and “meh”.

The crew of a Winnipeg police helicopter had a private conversation, of a sensitive and explicit nature about one of the officer’s “nocturnal activities”, as Chris put it, while not realising that the loudspeaker on the chopper was on, and broadcasting their chat to the citizens below.

Ivan told Chris he has sympathy with the Canadian police, as he harbours a deep fear of finding himself and Chris having a private discussion while unknowingly live on-air.

Today also brings us the news that 500 new words will be added to the dictionary, including “fo-shizzle”, “hot mess” and “twitteratti.”

Chris did his best to explain the meanings of some of the words to Ivan, as Yates asked him things like:

“What’s this, ‘hot mess’? Is that something in a toilet?”

“Fo-shizzle? Is that anything to vagizzle?”

The broadsheets go with reports on Greece, while coverage in today’s tabloids focuses on the inspiring words of a survivor of the Berkeley tragedy.

The Irish Examiner brings us a report on a looming “dementia tsunami”, with the numbers to triple in one generation, experts warn.

In the tabloids, the young victim and survivor of the Berkeley tragedy, Clodagh Cogley, dominates the front pages. Ms Cogley yesterday posted on her Facebook page that 

And The Sun carries an interview with Love/Hate creator Stuart Carolan, who has said there is nothing to say he won’t bring us a sixth episode of the massively successful show.
