Enda’s comments on the army and the banks and his tall-tales is scattered across the papers today, with the Taoiseach being caught out getting carried away while abroad and telling Europe Ireland was moments from deploying the army on the streets to stand guard over the nation’s ATMs.

And while the papers and airwaves are full of the story, some people are saying it’s bottom of the barrel stuff – we’re all too fixated on what was just a throwaway comment from the Taoiseach. But as Ivan poitne out, after several previous claims to the same effect, and saying ISIS would target Newgrange, it was “Another verbal adventure from the Taoiseach.”

The story dominating the majority of today’s front pages is one of a young hero – a 10-year-old boy who clung on to a moving SUV when serial offender Michael Martin dragged the boy’s 11-year-old sister into his vehicle, in Co Laois last March.

The tabloids all lead with the story, with the Sun headline: “Boys saves sis from pervert”; the Star leading with “Boy saves sister from child snatcher”, the Daily Mail meanwhile asks: “Why wasn’t serial sex predator locked up years ago?”

In the broadsheets, the Indo also leads with the story from Co Laois, with the headline: “Boy clung to moving car of child abductor to rescue his sister.”

The Irish Times meanwhile splits its front page between two stories. The first is “Increase in burglaries higher in Dublin than rural areas”, with “UN criticises plan for new non-jury court” also on the front page.

The Irish Examiner also carries a picture of Michael Martin, but the main front page story is “Minister reignites dispute on rent controls” – with the new Labour minister Kathleen Lynch has backed party colleague Alan Kelly in the coalition row over rent controls.
