A state funeral is being planned for Garda Tony Golden on Thursday.
He was gunned down in the line of duty on Sunday as he assisted a woman during a domestic incident in Omeath, Co. Louth.
A private prayer service will take place at Dundalk garda station today to remember him.
The woman is in critical condition in Beaumont hospital, while the perpetrator Adrian Crevan Mackin (24) also died.
Garda Golden has been hailed by the Garda Commissioner as a hero.

Meanwhile, it is reported today that Adrian Crevan Mackin had been granted bail earlier this year, with the consent of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
According to The Irish Times, he had been charged with IRA membership at the Special Criminal Court last January, and was released on a number of conditions - including signing on daily at Dundalk garda station.
