The typical cost of buying a house has risen by nearly 8% in the last 12 months, according to new research.

The latest Daft.ie property report found that the national average asking price in the third quarter of 2016 was €221,000, compared to €205,000 a year ago.

In Dublin, prices are up by an average of €102,500 – or 46.5% – from their lowest point in mid-2012.

Colombian voters have narrowly rejected a peace deal to end a 52-year conflict between the state and communist FARC rebels, in a shock blow to the country's government.

The "no" camp in the nation's referendum won by 50.21% to 49.78%, reversing the trend of earlier opinion polls.

Turnout was low at just over 37%, with authorities saying heavy rain caused some disruption to voting as Hurricane Matthew passed over the Caribbean.

Gardaí have released a man they had been questioning over the death of another man in Dublin.

The remains of the 64-year-old were found in the mountains on the Dublin-Wicklow border on Friday. He had been reported the previous day after going out walking. 

A 41-year-old man detained on Saturday has since been released without charge.

Hungarians have voted overwhelmingly to reject the EU's migrant quota plan but the result has been declared invalid by the country's National Committee.

For it to stand, at least 50% of the country's eight million people were required to vote.

The turnout was only around 44%, but the vast majority of those who voted - about 98% - supported PM Viktor Orban in rejecting the bloc's plan to share out migrants who have been granted asylum.

Kim Kardashian has been held up at gunpoint in a Paris hotel room by two armed and masked men dressed as police officers.

The reality TV star was said to have been left "badly shaken" after the incident, which came as she attended the French capital's fashion week.

Her husband, rapper Kanye West, cut short a concert in the US after the incident, telling fans he had "a family emergency".
