A Government TD says legislation for to regulate ticket touting could be signed into law by St Patrick's Day.
It comes as tickets for Ireland's Six Nations rugby match against England next weekend are being advertised online for hundreds of euro - in some cases in excess of €1,000.
Fine Gael's Noel Rock and Fianna Fáil Stephen Donnelly introduced legislation over two years ago in a bid to tackle the issue.
Speaking on Newstalk Breakfast today, he said it's hoped the bill will go before the Dáil on Tuesday.
Deputy Rock explained that Business Minister Heather Humphreys has 'fast-tracked' the legislation, and he's confident it will be pushed "over the line" by St Patrick's Day.
He said: "This is the first piece of backbench legislation it looks like will get through the Houses of the Oireachtas... but that all takes, particularly when there are commercial interests at play.
"There are a lot of companies involved in this, and there are a lot of vested interests involved.
"There's more lobbying happening, and there has been for the past two years now."
He added: "91% of the Irish public, in a professional poll that we did, gave their support - even in the event [that] it meant job losses. That's often what lobbyist push back and say... 91% of the public are still in favour even if that happens."
The proposed law would ban the above-face value re-sale of tickets for events in designated venues with a capacity of 1,000 or over.
Last year, Ticketmaster announced that it was shutting down its ticket reselling sites Get Me In! and Seatwave.
