New research shows four in ten drivers think it is ok to break the 100 kilometre an hour speed limit.
The Road Safety Authority (RSA) questioned a thousand people for the study, which found 11% admitted to having driven after drinking alcohol in the last two years.
The research in today's Irish Times, also found older drivers were most likely to drive after drinking alcohol, with the 65 plus cohort the biggest offenders, and men twice as likely as women to do so.
Almost one in three drivers also admitted to having spoken on a hand-held mobile while driving.
