The bill was put forward to address discrimination against LGBT workers, and is set to be debated and voted on in the Dáil over the next two days.

Many teachers in religious institutions in Ireland feel they are unable to open up about their sexuality due to the repercussions of identifying as gay.

Deputy Ruth Coppinger says the issue is timely, given the recent result in the same-sex marriage referendum.

Eoin Hoolahan is a secondary school teacher in Clondalkin in Dublin.

He told Newstalk Breakfast ful equality needs to be extended to all professions.
