It's because one of the most active meteor showers of the year is set to peak.

The high activity of the Perseid meteor shower could see one zoom across our skies every minute.

Astronomy Ireland are asking people to count how many they can see every 15 minutes, to help build their scientific data.

David Moore is the Editor of Astronomy Ireland's magazine, he says we should be able to see shooting stars all week:
