Two Cork students have won an award at the European Union Contest for Young Scientists in Milan.
Eimear Murphy and Ian O'Sullivan from Coláiste Treasa in Kanturk won the Irish BT Young Scientist competition this year with their project, examining the effects that parental adult alcohol consumption can have on their adolescent children.
And today it won the Intel ISEF Prize in Italy.
They will now travel to the US next year to take part in the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Phoenix, Arizona.
The pair came joint fourth in the chemistry section.
This year's Intel International Science and Engineering Fair featured some 1,700 young scientists selected from 422 affiliate fairs in more than 75 countries.
In addition to the top winners, approximately 600 finalists received awards and prizes for their research - including 20 'Best of' category winners, who each received a US$5,000 prize.
Ian O'Sullivan told C103's Cork Today programme they had no idea they were going to do so well.
