The wife of Yasser Eljuboori has said she won't be able to relax until her husband is back in Dublin Airport.

Laura Wickham was speaking after all charges were dropped against the Irish citizen in Iraq.

Mr Eljuboori is originally from Iraq and was detained at Baghdad Airport earlier this week after he returned home to visit relatives.

He is a prominent anti-corruption activist who has previously written articles criticising the Iraqi Government.

After he was arrested, his family were told he was being charged with defaming Iraq’s Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani through his anti-corruption posts on social media.

Those charges have today been dropped and he has been released on bail.

His wife Laura Wickham told The Hard Shoulder now is arguably the most important time.

"In court today the charges were dropped against him and he was released on bail," she said.

"The conditions of the bail [are] that it's two to three days paperwork.

"All of the charges were dropped which is a good step in the right direction.

"But it can be a dangerous or cautious time as well, this can often happen... and then the pressure is taken off.

"He hasn't received his passport back, he hasn't got his Irish passport back.

"So, the goal is to get him home".

Ms Wickham said she won't be able to relax until her husband is in Dublin Airport.

"I'm very appreciative to the Department of Foreign Affairs and to the Tánaiste in particular," she said.

"I am very grateful but I need this last push.

"It's really, really important now that now is the time to put on as much pressure as possible to get him out, to get him on a plane.

"It's kind of a limbo territory, that's why we're pushing and pushing to get him home.

"It's still going, we're not there yet - not until he's in arrivals."

Ms Wickham said her husband is 'tired, emotional but OK'.

She added that she spoke to him briefly on a video call this afternoon.
