A jury has been sworn in for the trial of a woman accused of murdering her mother at their home in west Dublin.

Greta Dudko of Station Court Hall, Clonsilla admits killing her on Christmas Eve 2010 - but claims it was not intentional and denies her murder.

On Christmas Day 2010, Anna Butautiene was found dead in her bed inside an apartment she shared with her daughter and then four year old grandson.

A post mortem revealed she died from serious injuries to her head.

Some time afterwards, Ms Dudko (36) was arrested and charged with her murder.

Speaking through an interpreter at the Central Criminal Court today, the Lithuanian woman admitted killing her mother but denied her murder.

Her manslaughter plea was not accepted by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and a jury of seven men and five women were sworn in to hear her trial.

Lawyers for the state will outline their case in the morning before the first witnesses are called in a trial that is expected to last up to three weeks.

Once all the evidence is heard, it will be left for the jurors to decide whether Ms Dudko intended to kill her mother.
