Woman charged with son’s murder is unfit for court

A woman charged with murdering her 8-year-old son was medically unfit to attend court this afternoon.

42-year-old Diane Ward of Harrison Place, Charleville in Co. Cork was due to appear before court in Newcastle West in Co. Limerick.

She is charged with the murder of her son Anthony at their home on September 3rd last.

When the case was called gardaí told the court Ms. Ward was “medically unfit to travel”.

They then presented a letter to the court from the Health Service Executive (HSE) confirming this.

The matter was adjourned to Limerick District Court on September 25th.

Last Thursday hundreds attended the funeral of the young boy in Cork.

He was found dead in his home last Monday morning and a post mortem revealed he died as a result of asphyxiation.
