A woman has been arrested by Gardaí investigating the deaths of two children in Co Westmeath.

Michael (2) and Thelma (5) Dennany died in a car fire in Multyfarnham on September 9th.

Their mother was in the car at the time and was treated for her injuries in hospital.

Gardaí believe the fire may have been started as a result of an arson attack.

The arrested woman, aged in her 40s, is being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

She is being detained at a Garda station in the Midlands.

An Garda Síochána say they will be making no further comment at this time.
