Over a thousand ESB customers have been left without power after stormy conditions around the country today.

Outages are being reported in almost every province with Dublin, Donegal and Longford some of the worst affected areas.

High winds earlier are blamed for the loss of supply but Met Eireann's Joanna Donnelly says the weather should improve in the coming days:

The final stretch of the bank holiday is set to be wet and windy, with weather alerts in place around the country today.

In Leinster, an orange weather warning for wind is in place with gusts of up 90 to 115kmh possible.

A yellow-level rainfall warning is in place for Munster, Connacht and Donegal. 

Meanwhile a yellow wind warning is in effect for those counties along with Cavan and Monaghan, where gusts of 80 to 100 kilometres an hour are possible.

The wind warnings are in place until 8pm, while the rainfall warning is effective until midnight.
