For this week's Paper Review, Shane was joined by Bernice Harrison of The Irish Times and Fergus Finlay, CEO of Barnardos.

They started with a discussion of the Banking Inquiry, following Deputy Ciaran Lynch's comments earlier in the show.

"I'm with Ciaran Lynch," Bernice argued. "I think he sounded so disappointed with [some] committee members for coming out and saying 'if Drumm is appearing by video link, I'm out'... He's saying 'let's wait for the legal advice'.

"It's also times like this that those of us who just watch this inquiry would really prefer if it was staffed by forensic accountants, financial experts, faceless grey people who are just going through the facts - as opposed to people who cannot quite avoid putting their jersey on," she added.

Speaking about the Banking Inquiry generally, Fergus observed, "I think it has given us some fresh insight... Some of the 'behind the scenes' people who have emerged have given us a lot of insight into what happened.

"We still haven't got a definitive answer to questions like why the decision on the bank guarantee made in the way it was made," he pointed out.

The panel moved on to a column by Conor Brady, which Shane said takes an "almighty swipe" at some of the anti-water charge protesters. Fergus said while he does not necessarily agree with water protests, he would say the majority of the protests have been democratic and peaceful.

Other stories discussed included the rise of the Independents in the latest opinion poll, Labour's ideal voter 'Ashbourne Annie', and the UK's Labour party leadership race.
