Some gadgets are crazy, completely impractical and usually break after you use them twice. But some gadgets can save you bundles of time and hassel, especially when it comes to cooking.
According to consumer group “Which?” there are five kitchen gadgets and trends this year that will keep you one step ahead in the kitchen stakes!
The Which? top 5 kitchen trends are:
1. Baking gadgets
There’s no end in sight for our love of baking as we’re encouraged to try making pastry, bread and cakes by popular TV shows such as The Great British Bake Off. Up until now, if you wanted to invest in a stand mixer to help, you’d probably be choosing between models from KitchenAid or Kenwood. But the coming year should see increased competition and choice as we expect more manufacturers to launch stand mixers and food processors designed for baking.
2. Gadgets that can multitask
We’ve already seen a jug blender that can cook soup from scratch before blending it, and a humble stick blender that morphs into a food processor that can chop, whisk, slice and grate, too. And we expect to see more of this new wave of hybrid kitchen gadget. One of the latest is Jamie Oliver’s Homecooker, which cooks your food and stirs it for you in one pot, and can also cook rice and pasta.
3. Smart appliances
Looking further into the future, our kitchens are to set to get smarter and more integrated – whether it’s a fridge or washing machine controlled from a smart phone app, or wireless blender that works by placing it on a specially designed induction hob. Manufacturers are currently developing these innovative concepts and prototypes, which might not be commonplace in our kitchens anytime soon, but are certainly a sign of what’s to come.
4. Energy savers
We’re used to thinking about energy consumption and running costs when it comes to our washing machines and tumbler dryers, but maybe not our kitchen gadgets. However, energy saving is becoming more of a feature, particularly with the gadgets we use a lot, such as coffee machines and kettles. We expect to see an increasing number of eco-friendly models released this year - with useful energy saving features, such as auto-shut-off.
5. Monochrome style
From candy-coloured spotty toasters to vibrant lime-green hand mixers and bright-red kitchen machines – kitchen gadgets have been far from dull in recent years. But the classic combination of black and white is set to return in a big way – expect to see lots of monochrome in manufacturers’ new ranges this coming year.
