In ten days time, Ireland decides who the next Government will be.

Frank Flannery, former Director of Elections with Fine Gael and a public affairs lobbyist spoke to Newstalk Lunchtime today about how the campaign is going.

He told presenter Jonathan Healy that he thought the campaign was a strange one, lacking in personality and major debate and is only marginally engaging the public.

He continued on to say that although housing is a major issue going into this campaign, it was barely featured as a discussion point in the two Leaders' Debates.

Mr Flannery said: "The leaders have been around an enormous length of time, all of them. There's no sign of young Ireland standing up there and I think that's a lack and it's part of the disconnect between the official political position.

"There are lots of dynamic young politicians in Dail Eireann but none of them are represented in the leadership we're being presented in this Election."

Mr Flannery went on to point to the fact that although Ireland is considered one of the fastest growing economies, this doesn't necessarily translate to people with a Government assumption that the population believe that this recovery is real and not just a word they hear.

He said: "The promises in any case have to come with a caveat that our ability to spend money in the next five years... depends entirely on the recovery continuing.

"I think make a much better effort to explain what the recovery is and not over-exaggerate it."

On leadership, he said: "Where is Leo Varadkar, where is Simon Coveney, where is the young leadership of the party? Why aren't they playing a dominant role in this debate, representing the new Ireland and the new generation that's coming up?"

On the possible coalition he said: "It is extraordinarily important that Ireland has a stable government. If you don't have a stable government, you will another election in a very short order."
