"Purely on a point of information, I'm totally confused" Senator Prof John Crown declared before the house.
He was speaking as Senators last night expressed their confusion during preparations for a vote on an amendment to the rules that covered the abolition of their house - something that was later passed.
"And if I propose this, do I vote yes or no?" - Senator Fergal Quinn.
What he was trying to clarify, was which way he should vote on an amendment that he himself had put before the house - but, admittedly, his language wasn't the easiest with amendment reading: "...that the words proposed to be deleted stand part of the main question."
The Cathaoirleach tried to clarify, "If the question is carried, Standing Order 119 also provides that the Bill shall fortwith be declared to be read a second time. So, I hope the Senators are clear on that."
They weren't though.
"I couldn't possibly tell you which way to vote..." the Cathaoirleach told Senator Quinn, who pleaded for direction.
That's when people started to get annoyed. "The amendment is very clear" Senator David Norris - who is currently battling cancer - said, in an impassioned plea to his fellow Senators.
Votes, amendments, disorder... catch it all here in a video of proceedings posted by TheJounal.ie journalist Aoife Barry:
