So hearty carvey 'meat and two veg' dinners is what keeps our TDs going but what about the rest of the worlds movers and shakers? We take a look at their favourite nibbles...

Enda Kenny

Mayo Beef. When it comes to food, Enda Kenny believes that the best of ingredients are the foundation. When he appeared on the TV cooking show The Restaurant, he cooked wild Atlantic salmon, Clew Bay Oysters and beef from the heart of Mayo.

Barack Obama

Hamburgers. One of the many Washington DC burger joints Obama frequents is Good Stuff Eatery, where Top Chef contestant Spike Mendelsohn created the Prez Obama burger and the Michelle Melt for the president’s wife.

Dalai Lama

Anything he is given! When he appeared on the Australian version of MasterChef he was given a number of dishes to try from the contestants. He enjoyed roti bread with a Sri Lankan curry but gnocchi was his least favourite. He refused to judge any of the dishes saying it was against his principles: 'As a Buddhist monk it is not right to prefer this food or that food.' He said eh must accept what he is given and be grateful for it.

Queen Elizabeth

Special K, jam sandwiches and chocolate cake. Darren McGrady, the Queen's former personal chef or fifteen years, has revealed that the 86-year-old British Monarch is a woman of simple tastes. While she feasts on elaborate dishes at state banquets, when at home she enjoys uncomplicated cuisine. McGrady said that she traditionally starts the day with a light breakfast followed by lunch, afternoon tea and dinner, topped off with a generous gin and Dubonnet before bedtime.

Francoise Hollande

Like Obama, he also has a taste for hamburgers. A very interesting fact about France is that it is one of the largest European markets for MacDonald’s. Stemming from his days having to make ends meet as a student and working in fast food, the president “has retained a taste for burgers” according to his girlfriend, Valérie Trierweiler.

David Cameron

Spicy sausage pasta. That’s the recipe he contributed to a charity book, the Scrummy World Cookbook. In his introduction to the recipe, the UK prime minister thanked the River Café Cook Book, calling his dish a shortened and simplified version.

Vladimir Putin

Ice cream. Food & Wine contributor Anya von Bremzen, reports that the Russian prime minister is a pistachio ice-cream fanatic. Is it odd to eat ice cream in a place that’s so cold so much of the year? “People of that Soviet generation love ice cream,” says von Bremzen. “We all ate it in winter, even though our parents forbade it because of the cold.”

Nelson Mandela

Deserts. Even Nelson Mandela has a sweet tooth. South Africa’s most famous head of state still likes to indulge in dessert. “He’ll be discouraging the children, saying fruit should be the only thing that you can eat,” says his longtime personal chef Xoliswa Ndoyiya. But serve Malva pudding — a baked treat topped with ice cream or custard — or strawberry trifle and the former political powerhouse “just eats it up.”

Angela Merkel

Cabbage and sausages. Angela Merkel sure likes to cook. In 2001 she was even elected ‘Cabbage Queen’ by the tradition-conscious in the city of Oldenburg, near Hamburg, and has said that her favourite dish is Mettwurst (minced pork sausage) with green cabbage: ‘It’s robust and easy to freeze. You can always put it away and it will still be tasty after storing it" sais Merkel.
