Staying dry cold and calm today - frost and pockets of fog could linger for a time though.

A severe frost will persist for a time across the southern half of the country, where it will remain coldest throughout today. Good sunshine across many areas, but again somewhat cloudier in the northwest. Highest temperatures of 5 to 10 degrees.

Very cold tonight with frost, and where clear skies persist the risk of icy patches. The frost will be severe over Munster, Leinster and the midlands with minimum temperatures between - 2 and -5 degrees; generally patchy across Ulster under somewhat cloudier skies with minimum temperatures between 0 to 5 degrees.

Mist will also thicken into dense fog in parts overnight with impaired visibility and dangerous driving conditions.
