Over the next week, Ireland can expect to see long dry spells and temperatures up to the high twenties, according to weather expert Alan O'Reilly.

He told Newstalk: "We have high pressure building over Ireland so the weather is going to stay largely settled now for the next five to seven days."

"It's going to get warmer each day as we progress through the week and by Thursday temperatures could be getting up to the high twenties."

He said Ireland can expect "a lot of sunshine", adding: "It won't be clear blue skies for everybody all the time, but there will be a lot of sunny spells."

"Really the only rain looks to be a small bit of rain in the north west on Sunday and maybe Monday or Tuesday, but even at that, it's very little rain."

The south east will likely get the nicest weather, and it can expect to to stay completely dry over the next week.

The Carlow Weather forecaster is confident that this will not be the last of the summer weather, and Ireland can expect to see some more fair weather at the end of the month and even into back-to-school season.

"I wouldn't call it the last hurray because we might see another one."
